My wife and I had flown with our 18 year old daughter to Colorado Springs to enroll her in her first year at Colorado College. She could pick up the dorm keys at 8am Saturday morning. Knowing the National Hurricane Center updates every 6 hours, we logged on NHC at 10pm central and saw the 11pm edt projected route was a bull's eye on New Orleans. Then I pulled up Hurricane Alley and found confirmation from the spaghetti and the detail that the consensus track was over New Orleans. So I checked flights and got on standby on the first flight out of Colorado Springs and into New Orleans Saturday morning. Departed 6 :30am (great sunrise off Pike's Peak) arrived New Orleans at noon. Bailed our dogs out of the kennel (where they would have drowned), picked up stuff at the office, found destinations for staff, shuttered the house, lined up for gas and drove to Houston with two very anxious dogs. So we were safe, dry and cool and very fortunate. My wife flew directly to Houston from Colorado after the storm, and we had the bizarre experience of viewing images of the destruction of our city.

Was Hurricane Alley responsible for us getting out? Well, our firm evacuates as a matter of policy. But based on good information, which Hurricane Alley provides.

No direct information on our house in New Orleans. More recent reliable info is the 8/31 aerial photo which seems to show a dry street. We will find out in a few months.
